Two local soccer clubs, River Forest Rapids and Oak Park-River Forest Strikers, announced that they have agreed to combine their club soccer programs for high school girls into a unified “OPRF One” program. Tryouts for 2011-12 OPRF One teams will take place in May 2011.
“This agreement builds on the success and positive energy we’ve seen in the OPRF One boys program since the merger in 2008,” said Strikers president John Donley. “I’d like to thank Rapids president Tim Drane, the Rapids board, and the Strikers and Rapids directors of coaching for working together to make OPRF One for girls a reality.”
“The agreement makes a lot of sense for everyone and is good for those players who have played for either program,” said Drane. “Our coaching directors Gavin Richards and Murray Findlay have been working well together, many of the girls play together on school teams, and the quality level will go up that much more when they play and practice together on the same club team.”
The OPRF One club team has trained dozens of varsity players at local high schools in
recent years -- many of whom have gone on to play college soccer. OPRF One boys made it to
the semifinals of the Illinois State Cup in 2009.
