Strikers Fall 2008/Winter 2009 Girls High School Program

Program Highlights

  • Features: Required two-week preseason camp, August 11-15 AND August 18-
22; two tournaments; fall IWSL 10-game schedule; winter indoor league play
and indoor winter training (all within IHSA rules).
  • Expectations: Total commitment, including on-time attendance at all practices
and games. Exceptions only for very serious conflicts, cleared with coach in
advance. Players should expect to plan family and social activities around
soccer, not vice versa. Players should plan now to attend 100% of preseason
training sessions in August, and adjust vacation schedules
    accordingly.
Playing time may be significantly reduced or eliminated for
uncommitted players, with no refunds offered.
  • Financial aid and payment options are available based on need.

Other high school sports

  • It is extremely difficult to play Fall Strikers soccer at the same time as playing
field hockey. Players deciding between field hockey and soccer for fall, should
make their decision during the month of May (prior to soccer tryouts for the
    upcoming fall season).
  • In the past, many players have tried to juggle Strikers soccer, a fall high school
sport and academics. Most who have tried to pull it off struggled, and were
exhausted and miserable trying. We strongly encourage all high school players
to pick either Strikers or a school sport, but not both.
  • Nevertheless, players on the U15 and U16/17 teams are not prohibited from
playing another sport next fall. They should expect, however, that their playing
time may be significantly reduced if they miss Strikers practices or their level of
play suffers due to the stress of multiple activities.
  • Playing on the U18 showcase team is generally not compatible with playing
another fall sport. The head coach of that team will be looking for players who
are committed to playing Strikers soccer as their only fall sport (but reserves the
right to roster a small number of players who participate in another fall sport, if
he deems it in the team’s best interest). Any such players will need to attend at
least one practice per week, all of pre-season camp and all fall games, as well as
all winter training sessions and indoor league games. Please let Director of
Coaching Murray Findlay know, in advance of the tryout, if you are considering
    this option.
